Abstract

This paper describes an experimental apparatus for studying the effect of temperature on the polarization characteristics of fiber lightguides. It presents the results of measurements of the temperature fluctuations of the azimuth of the semimajor axis of the polarization ellipse of the radiation transmitted through homogeneous and birefringent fiber lightguides when they are excited by plane-polarized light. The causes of the observed dependences are discussed. © 2003 Optical Society of America
