Abstract
Lasing properties of a square-lattice photonic crystal surface-emitting laser with TE-mode polarization and external reflection are investigated semi-analytically. Modal frequencies, threshold gains, and field intensity envelopes are systematically calculated for various boundary conditions at one of the laser device’s four sides. Additionally, external reflection is proposed as a technique for improving mode stability in cavities of modest () areas.
