Abstract

Stimulated-emission pumping (SEP) spectroscopy has been applied to the study of vibrationally excited levels of the ground electronic states of gas-phase open-shell molecular cations. SEP transitions were detected as a decrease in the total laser-excited fluorescence signal from the ions. The assignment of spin–orbit subbands previously observed in the A˜2Πu,ΩX˜2Πg,Ω emission spectrum of the diacetylene cation was confirmed by SEP, and vibronic bands in the B˜2ΠX˜2Π3/2 transition of the bromocyanogen cation were isotopically labeled in a similar manner. Rotationally resolved B˜4ΣuX˜4Σg transitions of C2+ have also been recorded and analyzed.
