Abstract

The effects of the transverse distribution of the optical field on CO2 laser instabilities have been studied by means of additional optical feedback. Chaos and pulsation frequency shifts caused by optical feedback are observed. The mechanism of the laser instabilities that result from the transverse mode interactions is discussed.
