Abstract

The line absorption method that uses a hollow-cathode discharge lamp has been applied to measure relative transition probabilities of 20 U i transitions involving the ground state and the lowest metastable state in the wavelength interval 700 to 400 nm. The relative gA values of U i transitions are placed on an absolute scale by employing the absolute gA value of the 639.542-nm transition. The technique has also been applied to measure excitation temperature in hollow-cathode discharge lamps.
