Abstract

Stimulated Brillouin scattering in CClF3 near the gas–liquid critical temperature has been investigated by using a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser operating at 1.06 μm. The resulting phase-conjugate backscattered wave has a frequency shift that is tunable from ~300 MHz at (TcT) = 4.5° to ~150 MHz at (TcT) = ~0.1°C. Reflectivities in excess of 60% were observed throughout the temperature region studied.
