Abstract
Analytic solutions to the problem of the response of stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) in the low-gain regime to an optical pulse train of short pulses are obtained. Solutions cover the cases of propagation in uniform and certain nonuniform media for arbitrary pulse repetition rates. The solutions describe memory effects in the SRS response to such currently available sources as radio-frequency free-electron lasers and mode-locked devices.
