Abstract

The lifetimes of the 3p54p 3D1, 3D2, 3D3, and 1D2 levels of singly ionized potassium, K ii, have been measured using the beam-laser method (7.0 ± 0.3, 7.2 ± 0.3, 6.89 ± 0.15, and 7.7 ± 0.4 nsec, respectively). The lifetimes are 10 to 25% shorter than previous beam-foil lifetimes. Improved transition probabilities are recommended for some transitions in K ii.
