Abstract

We propose a mechanism enabling amplification of the surface tunneling modes propagating over the semiconductor cylinder surface pumped by a direct current. Amplification of a whispering-gallery mode with a net gain as high as ${{1}}{{{0}}^3}\;{\rm{c}}{{\rm{m}}^{- 1}}$ is demonstrated.
