Abstract

The enhanced photoluminescence (PL) effect of a porous alumina film was studied on the interfaces of CdSe/Au/Al2O3 heterojunctions by using gold nanoparticles (NPs). We prepared, respectively, a CdSe/Al2O3 heterojunction and a CdSe/Au/Al2O3 heterojunction on the surface of a porous Al2O3 film by using a colloidal self-assembly method. The results have shown that the positively charged surface of the porous Al2O3 film can facilitate the aggregation of the CdSe quantum dots (QDs) toward their center to form a cluster, while the porous Al2O3 surface modified by gold NPs can aggregate and extend the CdSe QDs toward a specific direction to form a nanowire structure via self-assembling. The comparison of the PL spectra of the two heterojunctions reveals that the gold NPs acted as an electron conductor to electrically connect the porous Al2O3 film and the CdSe QDs and thus enhanced the absorption and fluorescence of the CdSe/Au/Al2O3 heterojunction. It is believed that these results can be widely used in the fields of photovoltaics, photocatalysis, photoelectric detection, and high-precision sensors.
