Abstract
Causality in two different dielectric models is analyzed by studying the reflection of a deltiform pulse in a vacuum–dielectric interface. It is shown that, while for a Lorentz dielectric the reflected pulse has a causal behavior, for a modified Lorentz dielectric—built up by replacing the damping force of the Lorentz model by the radiation reaction force—the reflected pulse appears before the incident pulse touches the interface.
