Abstract

The sequence of bifurcations and chaotic oscillations observed at the output of a bistable device containing a liquid crystal as the nonlinear medium is described. The system operates under conditions such that the delay time of the feedback loop tR is much larger than the relaxation time τ of the liquid crystal and of the remaining electronic components. The bifurcations and the chaotic pulsations are analyzed in terms of a discrete map. The dynamical behavior of the bistable system is characterized by means of power spectra of the output intensity and by phase-space portraits.
