Dispersive optical bistability: numerical methods and definitive results

Abstract

A finite-difference method has been applied to the study of optical bistability. Comparison with independent calculations by Hankel-transform methods has firmly established the accuracy of some of the results of both methods. A description of the finite-difference method is given, together with an analysis of the factors that determine its efficiency. New results that are presented include higher-order bistabilities and an optimization study.
