Effect of optical constants on calculated values of surface-enhanced Raman scattering

Abstract

Discrepancies between two sets of published values for the optical constants of Ag and Au result in different values for the enhancement of Raman signals from molecules adsorbed on the surface of colloidal spheres. The effect is greatest for small Ag spheres in water with 382-nm irradiation where the dipolar surface plasmon is resonantly excited.
