The spectrum of bromine has been photographed in the 69–1500-Å range on a variety of normal-incidence and grazing spectrographs using a triggered spark as light source. All levels belonging to the 3d94s and 3d94p configurations of Br viii have been located. Out of the thirteen J = 1 levels belonging to the 3d9nf(n = 4 − 8) and 3d95p configurations, six are new levels, and the values of other seven have been revised. The ionization potential of Br viii has been calculated as 3d9 2D5/2 = 1 553 500 ± 500 cm−1 (192.57 eV). Thirty-three lines have been classified in the Br viii spectrum.
