Artificial dielectrics: linear and nonlinear optical properties of germanium-implanted coherent arrays of submicrometer silica spheres

Abstract

Linear and nonlinear optical properties of germanium-implanted ordered arrays of silica spheres have been studied at λ=0.532µm. These periodic structures exhibited a large nonlinear refraction effect that was attributed to transversely confined optical fields.
