Abstract
Efficient beam-propagation methods are employed to model, quantitatively, the roles of internal and external propagation effects from the optical limiting materials zinc selenide and chloroaluminum phthalocyanine. By exploiting these materials' nonlinear absorptive and refractive nonlinearities, we demonstrate their excellent optical limiting behavior at 532 nm, provided that that sufficient sample thickness can be accommodated.
