Abstract

We employ Bragg diffraction of an ordinary probe beam into an extraordinary beam in a four-wave mixing geometry and measure the c axis of a BaTiO3 crystal with respect to a surface normal of the crystal. We measure the c axis by rotating the crystal relative to the photorefractive grating formed inside the crystal and by minimizing the anisotropic Bragg diffraction. Our measurement shows that the c axis of our BaTiO3 crystal is rotated by 0.29° ± 0.14° in one direction and by 0.35° ± 0.14° in the other direction with respect to the normal to the crystal surface toward which the +c axis is pointing.
