Abstract

We have determined the first ionization potentials of tungsten and rhenium atoms to be 63427.7 ± 0.8 cm−1 (7.86404 ± 0.00010 eV) (2σ error bound) and 63181.6 ± 0.9 cm−1 (7.83352 ± 0.00011 eV), respectively, by fitting ns and nd Rydberg series obtained by performing mass-selected double-resonance ionization spectroscopy on supersonic beams of laser-vaporized tungsten and rhenium atoms.
