Abstract

Photorefractive beam coupling and phase conjugation based on reflection gratings are studied with a BaTiO3:Co crystal. A self-pumped phase-conjugate mirror is developed in a reflection-grating ring geometry with a crystal of 1.1-mm length. The steady-state reflectivity of ~0.5 and the rise time of the phase-conjugate wave of 35 ms are reported for 10 mW of input power at 515 nm. The compensation for the fluctuations of the laser beams arising from air turbulence is demonstrated by phase conjugation in a 400-m optical path.
