Abstract
We consider the propagation of electromagnetic waves in real-index antiguided arrays. A matrix formulation is developed to extend the effective-index method to situations for which the cores and interelement regions support more than one confined mode. The matrix formulation is then used to analyze resonant transmission, resonant tunneling, and Bloch waves in such a medium that supports two confined transverse modes in each of the regions. The results are presented and discussed.
