Abstract
Beam fanning in low-symmetry photorefractive crystals features nonuniform angular distribution of linear polarization. We study this phenomenon experimentally in monoclinic crystals that belong to the class of symmetry and compare the results with the predictions of a simple model that describes amplification of a weak scattered wave via nonlinear coupling to the intense incident wave.
