Image-reconstruction algorithm using Kalman filter weighting of the bispectrum

Abstract

We describe a new and efficient image-reconstruction algorithm that is based on the bispectrum. The technique was developed for use in low-light-level imaging and image-stabilization applications. A series of innovative sorting procedures, in combination with Kalman filter weighting of the bispectral components, results in modest array-storage requirements, short processing times, and reconstructions having a high signal-to-noise ratio. Processing times of 25 min. on a VAX 3100 workstation are typical for processing a series of one hundred 256 × 256 images. Examples of images of moving objects reconstructed from noisy image frames are presented for both real and simulated data.
