Abstract
The application of slanted Bragg-regime diffraction gratings as wave mixers to detect weak acoustic waves is analyzed. The expression for the amplitude-modulated output intensity is given, and the signal-to-noise ratio in the shot-noise limit is obtained. The minimum detectable acoustic grating strength is shown to be of the order of 10−7 rad/Hz1/2.
