Symmetrical five-layer periods from nonabsorbing high- and low-refractive-index materials

Abstract

Some properties of five-layer symmetrical periods from two nonabsorbing dielectric materials with high and low refractive indices are discussed. Conditions are derived for which two high-reflectance spectral regions (stop bands) are suppressed. Period structures with two successive stop bands suppressed are proposed. The results are applied to the initial design of a multilayer heat reflector with high visible transmittance, using only two materials.
