Abstract
The instrument function is a function of position and angle, the knowledge of which allows one to compute the response of a radiometer to an incident wave field in any state of coherence. The instrument function of a given radiometer need not be calculated; instead, it may be measured by calibration with incident plane waves. Partial information may be obtained with a single plane wave, but the complete determination of the instrument function requires two mutually coherent plane waves.
