Abstract

A general analytical model is developed for analysis of the diffraction properties of layered structures of photorefractive gratings. With this model a simple closed-form expression is derived in both the transmission and the reflection geometry for the diffraction efficiency that describes the Bragg selectivity properties of these structures. We then propose and analyze a novel optical device, a dynamic multiple-wavelength filter, that combines the diffraction properties of such layered structures with the photorefractive effect and the electrically controlled diffraction effect.
