Abstract

Light scattering by a macroscopically isotropic volume element consisting of randomly oriented particles is considered. The expansion of scattering-matrix elements in a series of generalized spherical functions is used to develop a rigorous analytical method for computing scattered flux into any solid angle for incoherent parallel, convergent, or divergent incident beams. Some illustrative numerical results are reported.
