Scanning photoacoustic microscopy for nondestructive evaluation

Abstract

The photoacoustic technique is applied to the nondestructive evaluation of Si3N4- and SiC-ceramic materials. Differences in subsurface porosity are observable, and seeded impurities have been detected. A knoop indentation, 25 μm in size, has also been detected.
