Transmission and reflection of a Gaussian beam at oblique incidence on a dielectric slab

Abstract

The transmission and the reflection are investigated for a Gaussian beam obliquely incident on a dielectric slab. The transmitted and the reflected fields are expanded in a series of beam mode functions which have the same propagation axes as the directly transmitted and reflected fields, respectively. From the expansion coefficients, the transmittance and the reflectance are calculated. The results are compared with those obtained in the case of plane-wave incidence, and the effects of the finite spot size of beams are shown.
