Coding and decoding of dilute and continuous-tone objects in incoherent light

Abstract

A random-dots plate is represented as a new code for x-ray-tube anodes. A method, employing incoherent light, is described for decoding coded objects by reversing the rays in the process of coding. The effect of the decoding on dilute and continuous-tone objects is illustrated. The dilute object decodes well, but the continuous-tone object is little improved. A brief noise analysis is given, explaining this result.
