Resonance Raman Effect in a KI Single Crystal Doped with BaCrO4

Abstract

Unusually high intensities observed in a solid solution of KI doped with 0.03 mole % Ba+2–CrO4−2 have been attributed to a resonance Raman effect. Greater than a factor-of-5 intensity enhancement has been observed for the ν1 mode of the CrO4−2 ion for 4580-Å excitation relative to 5145-Å excitation. The results were correlated with two existing theories of resonance Raman scattering.
