Abstract

A rotating-sector-disk null method of comparing laser-excited Raman scattering with blackbody radiation is described. With it the Raman-scattering cross sections of the 992-cm<sup>-1</sup> line of C<sub>6</sub>H<sub>6</sub>, the 1002-cm<sup>-1</sup> line of C<sub>6</sub>H<sub>5</sub>CH<sub>3</sub>, the 1345-cm<sup>-1</sup> line of C<sub>6</sub>H<sub>5</sub>NO<sub>2</sub>, the 656-cm<sup>-1</sup> line of CS<sub>2</sub>, and the 459-cm<sup>-1</sup> line of CCl<sub>4</sub> were measured with 3.1% to 3.4% standard deviation.
