Abstract

Absorption spectra of 0.2% Gd:LaF3 have been measured for the transitions to 6P7/2, 6P5/2, and all 6I groups. A crystal-field analysis based on presumed hexagonal site symmetry gives B20 = 106 cm−1, B40 = 234 cm−1, B60 = 124 cm−1, and B66 = 850 cm−1, in the Stevens normalization.
