Abstract

A modification of the Bidwell apparatus was used to investigate whether color responses altered by hypnotic instructions had a sensory or a report locus. This apparatus produces colors which are either complementary to or are enhanced positives of colors inserted. Hypnotized subjects were shown colors which they were told would be presented and were asked to report what they saw. Responses were recorded to gray and colored presentations. The results obtained could be parsimoniously explained only by assigning a report locus to the altered responses of these subjects as well as to those of a subject for whom hypnotic instructions seemed to have induced color blindness.
