Measurements on a few of the infrared lines of water vapor, carbon dioxide, and acetylene are presented. This work was undertaken since in some instances there appeared to be a question about the absolute accuracy of the positions of band lines although good precision was obtained for the relative values. The technique used has enabled us to tie the values to the precision data available for the vibration rotation bands of the CO molecule.

Essentially there seems to be a constant shift of about 0.07 cm−1.

The procedure adopted in the two sets of measurements is essentially the same, which indicates that the performance of our near infrared grating spectrometer is reproducible.

The region of absorption of ν5 of C2H2 has shown several overlying bands. The improved resolution seen in our records may account for the scatter in the difference.
