A Raman Apparatus for Gases

Abstract

A Raman irradiation apparatus designed for gaseous samples has been built. It is of simple construction, using aluminum foil wrapped around a single mercury arc and Raman tube to concentrate the light. The fundamentals of both O2 and N2 in a sample of air at eight atmospheres were photographed in an exposure of 112 hours. Spectra of gaseous fluoroform and ammonia are presented.
