The Influence of Varying Amounts of Elements in Steel and Cast Irons on Spectral Intensity

Abstract

The effect upon spectral intensity of varying amounts of elements in approximately sixty Bureau of Standards steel samples have been investigated. Samples used in the study included cast iron, low and high carbon steels, and low and high alloy steels. Of all the certified analyses, only varying amounts of carbon, chromium, and phosphorous appeared to affect spectral intensity. Experimental data and spectrochemical techniques are discussed.
