Five-Inch Molded Silver Chloride Correctors for a Kellner-Schmidt System

Abstract

Silver chloride corrector plates of five-inch diameter for a Kellner-Schmidt optical system of f:82 relative aperture designed for 3μ-radiation have been molded by both confined and unconfined flow pressing between stainless steel dies. Measurements of the die contours, corrector plate contours, and transverse aberration of the system have been made for each of these procedures. With mold correction, largely to compensate for elastic recovery of silver chloride, Schmidt corrector plates can readily be produced of optical quality sufficient for many applications.
