In the Stoelting set used by the writer, copied directly from an original Holmgren, the first test skein is faintly yellowish, though Holmgren described it as a "pure green," neither yellowish or bluish. Differences in illumination, hue sensitivity, verbal usage, or divergent dyes and fading may explain the discrepancy. In some nondescript sets the red skein has a definite orange tone. The purple also varies, in hue and chroma.
