Figures (4)

Fig. 1
Fig. 1

C.I.E. chromaticity chart showing standard deviations of chromaticity, magnified ten times, for matches made on 25 test colors. Observer: P.G.N. (MacAdam, reference 2).

Fig. 2
Fig. 2

C.I.E. chromaticity chart in which equal color steps are represented by the lines in the chart. Observer: W.D.W. (Wright, reference 1).

Fig. 3
Fig. 3

Variation in the length Δl of the color steps along the line in the C.I.E. chart from 0.495–0.650μ, for both MacAdam’s and Wright’s observers. The scale of MacAdam’s data (for D.L.M. and P.G.N.) has been adjusted to make the curves comparable. The small difference from the line, 0.493–0.700μ, actually tested by MacAdam, has been ignored.

Fig. 4
Fig. 4

A selection of the color steps shown in Fig. 2, re-plotted in the R.U.C.S. chart of Breckenridge and Schaub (reference 8). (Wright, reference 1.)
