Abstract

A Fabry-Perot interferometer is described in which one of the plates is silvered to opacity and the film then ruled with parallel slits. It is demonstrated that by this means either the resolving power or the intensity of the fringes can be materially increased as compared with the conventional interferometer. The influence of the rulings upon the resolving power and intensity is discussed and the possible spurious effects considered. A manner in which the film may be r uled without damage to the plate is described. The question of the appropriate width and spacing of the rulings is also discussed.
