Abstract

A review is presented of the relations between the National Bureau of Standards and the Optical Society of America. Special emphasis is placed on the earlier historical associations during the first 25 years of the half-century of service which the Bureau is celebrating this year. Consideration is given to the early technical workers and the developments in the fields of photometry, pyrometry, polarimetry, radiometry, spectroscopy, spectrophotometry, colorimetry, interferometry, optical instruments, optical materials, and photographic technology.
