The high-dispersion absorption spectrum of Ca i is reported for the 1430–1340 Å region. Observations include transitions from 4s2 1S0 to the J = T channels associated with the 4p2P° ion core of Ca ii. Autoionization and channel mixing of the observed J = 1° channels are correlated using methods based on multichannel quantum defect theory.

Absorption peaks and transmission windows are labeled A and E, respectively. Relative transition intensities for absorption features are based on visual estimates (see text).
Since the ground 4s2 1S0 level is taken as the zero of energy for all Ca i levels, the energy of the upper J = 1° level (or feature) and the wave number of the transition are identical. The
and
values appearing to the right of each wave number position are the effective quantum numbers for the feature based on the ionization energies for the
and
ion core levels, respectively.
Uncertainty estimates for relative line positions are included with each reported wave number because there are marked differences in the diffuseness and shapes of the observed features (see Figs. 1 and 2), with the absolute uncertainty on the sharper lines being ~±0.28 cm−1 (see text).
