Abstract

Photoelectric recording of completely separated charge-state beams to give unambiguous and rigorously correct charge-state identifications is described and compared to alternative techniques.

Photomultiplier signal obtained by sweeping observing point from A to B in Fig. 1. With E = 0 all beams are undeflected and occur at the neutral beam position. With E = 40 keV, the beams are deflected showing the location of a +1 and +2 beam.
