Beginning with the dark-adaptation curve (dots on left) broken lines indicate how for each point in time the equivalent background luminance was computed by transposition to the log ΔI vs logI curve on the right. Real backgrounds derived in this way were continuously introduced and gradually increased at a rate reversing the log equivalent background vs time curve for dark adaptation. Resulting increment thresholds for light re-adaptation are shown for comparison (circles, reversed time axis).
