Light Scattering from Long Thin Glass Cylinders at Oblique Incidence

Abstract

The angular distribution of the light scattered by long, thin glass cylinders was measured at both perpendicular and oblique incidence using a newly designed light-scattering photometer; these results were compared with theoretical calculations. Each set of data could be fit uniquely to a calculated result corresponding to a particular size parameter. The size parameters thus obtained for the same fiber at two wavelengths and several tilt angles agreed with each other.
