Comparison of the Effects of Two Correction Methods on Line Shape Parameters

Abstract

Two methods of line shape correction, the parametric method of Kostkowski and Bass and the approxition method developed by Anderson, Kuipers, and Smith have been applied to certain absorption lines of the hydrogen fluoride fundamental band. A comparison of the effects of each method on the values of the line parameters has been made.

Good agreement was found between the predictions of the two methods when applied to Lorentzian-shaped lines for which the instrumental slit function was gaussian. When, however, the slit function deviated slightly from gaussian shape by the addition of larger “wings” the agreement was not as good.
