Abstract

Feature Issue on Optical Performance Monitoring (OPM). Amplitude histograms that have simultaneously deterministic perturbations and Gaussian noise are analyzed by a Gaussian deconvolution method that allows us to identify the deterministic perturbations that are usually hidden by the noise. In addition, the strength of the Gaussian noise and the parameters of the deterministic perturbations can be evaluated qualitatively and quantitatively. Numerical examples for the evaluation of histograms with intersymbol interference and with deterministic jitter show the validity of the method.
