Abstract

This paper reviews the most recent advances on next-generation fibers for space-division-multiplexed transmissions. These fibers can be classified into different categories, depending on the way the inherent crosstalk issue is addressed, and have thus different characteristics and limitations. Comparisons of their performances and insights in their different potentials are also provided.
